Red and Blue Double Drop Hook Earrings — Hand Painted Wood — One of a Kind
There is a particular pleasure in the thing that should not work and does. A red-patterned oval and a cobalt spiral square, linked on a gold jump ring, two separate paintings sharing the same ear. They have decided they belong together. You will be inclined to agree.
The upper piece is a small oval painted in a deep crimson red, marked across its surface with purple and lavender botanical gestures ... loose leaf forms, arcing lines .... that give it the energy of something half-remembered from a textile. The lower piece is a square, rotated forty-five degrees to hang as a diamond, painted in the same cobalt-and-white square spiral pattern that has appeared across Audra's work in this collection. The two are connected by a small gold ring. The backs of both are finished in metallic gold.
At two inches long, the whole composition moves as a unit. The colors have no business being as good together as they are. They catch the light from two different angles. They will be the first thing people mention.
One of a Kind Statement
Audra painted this pair, by hand, in her North Carolina studio.
