Bottoms Up — Original Painting

You grew up being told to look up. Keep your chin up. Eyes on the horizon. Head in the clouds if you must, but always, always facing forward and upward, toward the respectable, the visible, the understood.

Nobody told you about the world underneath.

This is a painting about what happens below the surface of things. The drake who tipped headfirst into the water, orange feet paddling at the sky, completely unbothered by what anyone thinks of the view he's presenting. His hen still airborne above, watching him do exactly what she knew he was going to do. The fish holding still in the green murk. The turtle with his ancient, unhurried patience. The dragonfly hovering between worlds.

They are not performing. They are simply living in the part of the world that most people never stop long enough to see.

This painting is for anyone who has learned to look sideways, downward, inward. Who finds the interesting thing not on the surface but underneath it. Who suspects that the most alive places are the ones that require you to get a little wet.

The original is 24 x 36 inches, acrylic on canvas with drips, texture, and edges finished in gold leaf. Sealed with varnish and ready to hang without a frame, though it will not object to one. Signed on the front, signed and dated on the back.

There is only one.

If you are local, this painting can be picked up at Audra Style store in downtown New Bern.
